john-popielarczykJohn is Director of Projects in Solomon’s refining consulting practice. He also serves as Team Leader for the Hydrocarbon Quality Management and Hydrocarbon Loss teams, as well as a subject-matter expert in Solomon’s Planning and Optimization practice. John also developed and managed Solomon’s Worldwide Refinery Quality Control Performance Analysis (QC Study).

Prior to joining Solomon, John had a wide ranging international management and consulting career in the downstream petroleum industry spanning 35 years. His petroleum industry experience includes economics and planning, petroleum supply and trading, energy risk management, quality management, energy marketing, and process operations.

John has a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Dallas. He is a registered Professional Engineer (Texas).

Charles J. Reith, Jr., P.E.

Charles ReithWith more than 20 years experience in industrial consulting, Charlie heads Solomon’s Consulting Services vertical as Vice President. He relies on his extensive experience and knowledge to help clients around the world improve their performance.

Before joining Solomon in 2004, Charlie worked for a diverse range of organizations, including Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., Bell Constructors, Inc., and O’Brien & Gere Engineers, Inc. Additionally, he has broad and in-depth knowledge of the consulting business, including experience with strategic planning, business development, risk management, team building, budgeting, and financial management. Charlie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University.

Rick Jones, Ph.D.

Rick Jones, Ph.D.With nearly 30 years of experience, Rick Jones is currently responsible for quantitative risk analysis and statistical applications development at Solomon. He uses his background in corporate-level industrial risk management and tenure in research and as a university professor to help Solomon’s clients around the world improve their performance.

A seasoned statistician and mathematician, Rick has developed innovative methods of identifying, quantifying, and financing industrial risk exposures for business risk management as well as proprietary techniques for engineering project valuation, and directed strategic consulting services for industrial maintenance and reliability improvement programs. He holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Science & Engineering and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Jon Stroup

Jon Stroup As a Senior Consultant, Jon Stroup is currently performing refinery analysis and benchmarking for the Comparative Performance Analysis (CPA) vertical. With more than 18 years of experience in the refining industry, Jon’s experience spans various roles in operations and maintenance management, capital project management, project engineering, as well as APC and process engineering.  Jon then applies that experience and knowledge to helping Solomon’s clients around the world improve their performance.

Before joining Solomon in 2009, Jon worked for a diverse range of organizations in the industry, including Diamond Shamrock, Honeywell, and Sunoco.  In his experience, Jon has been responsible for line organizations both in operations and maintenance, project manager for large-scale capital projects as well as responsible for ensuring day-to-day refinery optimization through APC and other roles.  Jon holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tulsa.

Joe Barth

Joe Barth As a senior consultant, Joe Barth conducts consulting projects for Solomon’s clients in the petroleum refining and petrochemicals industries. Joe uses his nearly four decades of experience with companies including ExxonMobil to develop best practices on planning and optimization and scheduling processes, complete major studies, conduct training seminars and present papers to Solomon’s clients around the world.

He specializes in planning and optimization for integrated refining/petrochemical sites, linear programming modelling and model support best practices. Joe holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Houston and a B.S. degree from Auburn University.

Jamie Brunk

Jamie BrunkAs a senior consultant, Jamie Brunk is responsible for Solomon’s Worldwide Paraffinic Lube Refinery Performance Analysis. He uses his experience in base oil and wax refining, planning and optimization, strategy development, base oil sales and acquisitions, supply and distribution, and asset sales and acquisitions to help Solomon’s clients improve their performance.

Prior to joining Solomon, Jamie spent more than 30 years with Pennzoil and its successor companies (Pennzoil-Quaker State and Shell) managing all aspects of the base oil business. He holds two degrees in chemical engineering – a Master of Science degree from Marshall University and a B.S. from Grove City College in Pennsylvania.

Don Miller, P.E.

Don MillerAs a Project Manager, Don Miller has been helping Solomon’s refining clients to improve their performance since 1996. With more than 35 years in the refining industry, Don draws on his experience in refinery operations to manage the database research and analysis for correlating factor and energy standard improvements in Solomon’s Worldwide Fuels Refinery studies.

As a licensed chemical engineer, Don leverages his background with companies including Total and ARCO Chemical in tandem with his expertise in technology, economics, benchmarking, and database manipulation to provide insight to clients around the world. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University.

Jeanne Jeng, P.E

Jeanne JengJeanne Jeng is a senior petrochemicals consultant at Solomon providing performance benchmarking and performance improvement consulting services to the petrochemical industry. With nearly 30 years of petrochemicals manufacturing and consulting experience, her areas of specialization include feedstock optimization, economic analysis, operations strategies, and development of computer models supporting various production planning and scheduling functions.

Jeanne is a registered State of Texas Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Joe Waters

Joe WatersJoe Waters has been helping Solomon’s Fuels clients improve their performance since 2004.  He applies his years of hands on experience in Refining to developing the advanced SQL and VBA programming tools necessary to efficiently manage and analyze the wealth of data gathered in the benchmarking process.

Prior to joining Solomon, Joe has held roles, most recently at ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge refinery, in areas of process engineering, business development, financial analysis, and management including the role of Operations Supervisor and overall equipment owner for the largest FCC complex in the world. He is a chemical engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech.
