Giving you an in-depth understanding of the new carbon economy, our GHG consulting practice can help you meet your regulatory obligations while highlighting areas where improved carbon emissions efficiency is possible. The path to effectively managing your facility’s GHG emissions begins with an assessment of your performance relative to industry using credible metrics.
Through decades of industry analysis we have developed the largest proprietary database of carbon and energy management data in the world, setting the standard for GHG emission benchmarking in the industry. Our experienced team of consultants applies its extensive knowledge and our databaseto help our global clients create realistic emission reduction targets and provide the basis for ongoing performance improvement and monitoring.
Energy consumption accounts for 65 to 85% of GHG emissions in a refinery which is why we base our GHG metrics primarily on Solomon’s proven Energy Intensity Index (EII®) which has been an industry standard for nearly thirty years.
We understand that different business issues require different approaches. Our GHG consulting practice focuses on:
Discovering Areas to Improve Your Performance
Carbon Emissions Index (CEITM)
- We assessed 85% of worldwide refining capacity in our last study to develop a refinery’s carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions relative to a CO2 emissions standard. The result is an accurate and reliable benchmarking metric, CEI, which can be used to assess emissions efficiency performance relative to the industry, set targets for managing this critical area of performance and to monitor your progress. This metric supplements management of energy efficiency by incoporating the effects of carbon-intensive fuels.
Helping You With Regulatory and Compliance Issues
Complexity Weighted Barrels or Tons Metric (CWB or CWT)
- Designed specifically for use in developing global GHG intensity metrics and allocation methods within a regulatory framework, our CWB (or CWT) methodology is currently under serious consideration for adoption by industry associations in European Union, Canada and the state of California. In each of these areas Solomon has assisted in meeting with regulatory agencies to establish equitable methodologies. Our GHG consulting team can assist you in addressing these issues, understanding the implications for your refinery and develop appropriate response strategies to manage your compliance costs.
